We're heading to the polls on April 28th

Prime Minister Mark Carney has called for a federal election to be held on April 28, as expected. This is the earliest date the election can take place, as federal campaigns must last at least 37 days. This will mark Canada’s 45th federal election.

Political parties in Canada have been busy mobilizing their campaigns by nominating candidates and organizing tours for their leaders. Carney was elected as the Liberal leader on March 9, succeeding Justin Trudeau, and was sworn in as prime minister along with his new cabinet on March 14.

In the past week, Carney made his first trip abroad, visiting France and the U.K. before stopping in Iqaluit to assert Canada’s sovereignty in response to annexation threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
